Thanks to all who responded to my request for monitor adjustment
instructions. It looks like you gave me too much credit for knowing
the obvious. The answer that finally worked:

"While holding down the Control button (the round button to the right
of the Reset button), press the Reset button using the tip of a pen."

That did the trick. The full article was on the Apple - Support
techinfo list.
