[WinMac] Printing with AppleTalk and Virtual PC

I have VPC 2.01 running on my 8600/250. I'm trying to get it to
recognize my stylewriter 1200 printer attached to a Centris 610
connected with an Ethernet crossover cable. If I go to the Chooser and
highlight the printer ("Old Faithful"), I can then go to VPC
Start-Settings-Printers and see "Old Faithful" as a networked printer .
When I try to highlight it and go to the File menu to select "Set as
Default" it won't allow me to pull down the menu and instead just sits
there with the spinning beachball until I get the "this program has
performed an illegal operation" dialog.

This is the established procedure in the manual but doesn't seem to work
for me. VPC tech support is not very helpful. Thought maybe some of you
folks might have an idea.
