[WinMac] Re: business process mapping software

Thank you to all who have provided input.

I have tried both the MacFlow to PICT to Powerpoint and the MacFlow to
PDF. As a short term fix this has helped.

My problem is that actual properties of the mapping objects get
lost during these translations. i.e. a square with integral text
description and linked sub-process map
becomes a square, some text and no sub-process. In the process mapping
software if you move a box, the connectors move
with it. As a translated PICT, if you move a box, the connectors and
text etc. must all be moved manually. This quickly becomes an editing
nightmare if more than a few changes must be made.

John N., suggested writing some VB code to translate the file formats.
I have been unable to find much information on the MacFlow file format.
It appears to be proprietary. The new version has a text export
feature, so that might work. Writing a translator is a great
suggestion, but I haven't coded anything in 15 years. Ouch, that
really dates me doesn't it!

I suspect that the easiest solution would be to buy both Virtual PC and
use a windows based process
mapping software on my Powerbook. This solution defeats the purpose of
using a Mac and I fear that I will spend a lot of time trying to get
everything to coexist on my Powerbook.

I would be very happy to hear any other suggestions or comments?

Thanks again for everyone's help.
Philip
