[WinMac] Broken Links problems/G3/DAVE/NT

The client's IS dept. recently installed a new NT server (with Service
Pack 3) to provide file services to a 10b-T G3 Mac network. Because
corporate IS will not allow Appletalk on the segment of the network were
the NT server resides, "Services for Macintosh" have not been enabled on
the server. Each G3 has been loaded with DAVE Access, which lets them
access the server using NetBuei. Users are set up to automatically log on
to volumes on the NT server at start up.

The problem:

They "place" a PhotoShop file into a Freehand 7.0.2 document (creating a
link between the two docs). The application is being run on the G3, the
documents (photo and art) reside on the NT. The file can be closed and
reopened and the link is maintained. However when the G3 is restarted, or
when shutting down for the night and starting the next day, the link is
lost and the dialog box asking for relinking appears. In having to relink,
they are losing valuable production time. The same problem occurs on all
Macs on the network.

An old SUN server with Helios Ethershare is still connected to the network.
The link between a
FreeHand art document sitting on the NT and the PhotoShop document on the SUN
will maintain it's link.

Any ideas how to tackle this one? Looks to me like something going on with
DAVE so I'm checking with them, but welcome any other advice.

Thanks/Andy
