Hello,
I am trying to help a friend log into a groupwise 5.1 system with his mac. The
system administrators are very prejudiced against macs and will not support
them. I think he may be the only mac user in the whole state of utah groupwise
network.

The main thing that he wants to do is simply have access to the mailbox to
check his e-mail. He has a g3 powermac with os 8.1 and we downloaded the
latest version of the groupwise client from novell and installed it. The
client can see the network and the pobox, but when it tries to authenticate, it
goes part way then gives up. We had been using an older version of the
groupwise 5.1/5.2 client and figured that the new version might be able to log
him in. When he tries to hook up from a PC, everything works fine.

Our other alternatives were to use the web-browser mail interface to log in,
and that has proven somewhat successful. However, sometimes it won't let him
open the messages.
And of course, using a 3rd party e-mail program to access the pobox server
directly, but even this has been met with opposition in the form of
nondisclosure of the IP address of the server by the administrators. Before,
he started working for these people, he had been using Eudora mail client and
was comfortable with it, so it was not a bad alternative. I read on novell's
website that it was posible to log on directly to the mail server with the
release of 5.1.

Does anyone have any ideas on how we can help my friend read his e-mail? It
really is a ridiculous situation.
