Subject: AppleTalk vs. IP

IP is the protocol used by DAVE to link macs to windows based networks.
AppleTalk is the native network protocol for macs NetBEUI is the native
network protocal for windows IPX/SPX is the native network protocol for
Novell (netware)
TCP/IP is the native network protocol for the Internet
Windows95 and NT can use IP
AppleShareIP can use IP
Netware 4 (and this summer's 5) can use IP.
All computers use IP for the Internet.

Therefore, IP is usually a good comprimise these days, since you can
reasonably bet that everyone speaks it. (NetBEUI is really "chatty,"
therefore bad for networks with more than...15 computers. Therefore, IP
is VERY common on windows networks (though IPX/SPX can be used). That's
why the DAVE people decided to use it).
