Subject: Mac to PC and Back for PC novice

As a long time certified Macaddict I decided to venture into networking
with a PC in order to run some PC only programs on my PPC Mac 8500 120
mHz figuring that this was the best solution for speed. I have tried to
connect my Mac with a new Compaq Presario 4184ES P200 with Win 95 and
built in Netelligent 10/100 Tx PCI card via an Asante Netextender Hub.
The leds indicate a connection and Asante assured me that the physical
setup should work. Have managed to install PC Mac Lan on compaq However
neither computer gives any indication of recognizing the other. What
configuration do I need on my MAC to get things to work.PC networks
components installed include NetBEUI, TCP/IP, Netellignet driver, client
for microsoft networks(set for primary network longon) and existing ODI
driver, share level access control. Don't know what I am doing wrong????
Entire network icon shows up on network neighborhood but O items found
when I openthat?? Chooser on MAC shows appleshare-when selected asks
for IPaddress??? What should TCP/IP config be?? This Win 95 stuff is
totaly foreign to me. Have also tried test copies of Dave 2.0 and
Timbuktu but am assuredly lost. Anyone out there know of any resources
(written or living) that might help. Have tried Mac to PC networking
text but everything written for tapping into established networks.
Lost inside intel
