This sounds like overkill. One solution might be to run a program like
NameCleaner on your server volumes on a regular basis which adds the
correct 3-letter extensions based on file type and/or creator code. Of
course, you still have to come up with that list but you only have to do
it once. Your best bet, short of somebody pointing you to a complete
list, is to simply start out with the major ones which will probably
take care of 95+% of your problems.
