Other then a slap on the wrist you may want to look at some Mac
utilities. I've got two programs downloaded from the Internet. One is
called DOS-Namer and the other which I use a lot and does a number of
things is called Drop*Rename. The files have to be dropped onto these
apps and then the program does its magic. They do not prevent the Mac
users from typing Mac only characters as you've suggested.
The biggest problem I have are Mac users who don't put a three letter
extension on their files so even though it may be a cross-platform file
format the Windows computers haven't any idea what the file is.
Photoshop can automatically add the three letter extension and I wish
some of the other apps would take notice and do the same.
I use both Macs and Windows NT all day long and so I'm bouncing back and
forth between the two. Still like the Mac best for my graphics work
though.
