I'd forgotten I was even on this list! I guess people don't have
cross-platform problems now that Mac OS X has been around for a while. ;-)

Here's a tidbit I thought I'd share. In the past I have administered
several small, mixed networks. Usually Mac OS X and Windows 2000. One of
the features in Windows that I use regularly as a system administrator
is the much-reviled Windows Messenger service (net send, winpopup).
Although it has been abused by spammers it remains a handy messaging
tool for system administrators on private networks.

For example, let's say I want to send a quick message to all the users
on the network that the file server is going down for maintenance at
5:00 PM sharp. Windows Messenger lets me do that, but the message won't
reach the Mac users, because although Samba on Mac OS X is capable of
receiving such messages, there is no way for them to be displayed.

I posted to the Mac Managers list asking for help and I was pointed to
MacXPop, a free program that allows Mac OS X to display these messages.
Installation requires some manual steps, but it works.

Just thought I'd share. Have a great day, folks.

Yours,

Zac
