    All these years, I've been printing to the HP via AppleTalk. I
    never had to "turn it on".

    Sorry, this is an antique HP. LaserJet 5MP purchased in 1995.
    There is no LCD panel on the printer ... the only "controls" are
    for clearing paper jams.
