Go into your home directory with a command shell and execute the "ls
-la" command. You'll see a listing of your files, including normally
"invisible" ones like .trashes. Here's one from mine (YellowDog
Linux on a G4):

The stuff on the left has to do with permissions.

The numbers have something to do with...I'm not really sure...

What I'm talking about are the next two columns in which usernames
are displayed. "prescor" is my username on this box. The first one
denotes the USER, the second denotes the GROUP. If any other
username but yours is listed in the first column for any file/folder,
you don't "own" it. Be root, go to your HomeDir and then "chown
<username> <filename>" where <username> is your username.
