From what I understand, Windows Media MPEG-4 V3 is (surprise!) Microsoft's
embrace and extend of MPEG-4, it is not really standards based.

Macintosh Windows Media Player may be able to play it in 9 but I have not
had luck in X.

You should be able to open those files in a shareware video editing app on a
windows box (or Premier, or whatever) and then recompress them with a true
x-platform codec.
