A 15" LCD is roughly equivalent to a 17" CRT. However, if you're going to be graphics and music, you'll be much happier with a 21" monitor.˙

Subject: [WinMac] New iMac/15" Flat Screen

Hi folk,

I've just been notified of some money "sitting around" that I could˙
use to get some new computers, and the person I was talking to˙
suggested iMacs. I've never been a fan of iMacs, but the price is˙
starting to draw me into at least considering them (even though the˙
new ones scare me just because of the off-the-wall design -- can˙
somebody say "G3 Cube"?).

But then there are other issues. One way they're keeping the cost˙
down on these things is by only providing a 15" flat screen monitor˙
with it. I understand the advantages of having a flat screen, but do˙
they make up for that size? 15" is darn small these days even for˙
regular work, let alone for eyesight-intensive stuff like graphics and˙
music, which is what we'll be concentrating on.

I'd also like to have something faster than 800MHz, but I can˙
overlook that if I can get past the screen issue. Can any of you˙
say from experience that the 15" flat screen will work as well as a˙
17" or 19" Trinitron CRT in the visual arts and music?

TIA,
Bob
