Conspiracy? Honestly, upgrading your OS every 6 years should be
mandatory! There have been many changes in VB, Active X etc. at the
core of Windows which effects many applications. You SHOULD upgrade.

Still, I think it is quite possible you could keep 95. I install a
CAD/CAM Windows application and have run across some clients that
have older apps which run best on 95. In these cases I have installed
our software without upgrading the OS.

This will require a visit to the Windows Update page and much time
updating <http://windowsupdate.windows.com>. Be sure to bring
Internet Explorer up to at least 5.01 SP2 in order to block the Nimda
virus hole.

After you're all done with that it still may not work well enough. In
my case I insist on installing Office 2000 as well to be sure all the
MS database and OLE stuff is up-to-date. Most businesses want Office
2000 on hand but if you don't need it, well, it costs 3 times as much
as the new OS.

You really should just spend the $125 and do it right.
