         Hi, Tom!

Since this is a Win-Mac list, I don't know for sure if you're interested in recording CD's with a FireWire (aka IEEE-1394, iLink) CD-R deck. In any case, I'd avoid it like the plague for either platform, but *especially* for Windows 98 or 2000... The MacOS drivers are generally pretty lousy; while the Win98/NT software sucks as much as a Gold Club [Atlanta] dancer.

Instead, buy a $49 Orange Micro PCI SCSI card (Mac) or any non-AdapCrap PCI SCSI card that also has decent ASPI layer drivers; and use this dependable, robust interface standard. As a bonus, you'll be able to boot from it on the Mac.

The key word here is "robust:" You have better things to do with your time than screw around with making something work. FireWire is great for DV cameras; but that's about it.

         Cheers!
         Dan

    >Hi,

    >I'm in the market for a good Mac based CD-ROM burner, probably Firewire, maybe SCSI, definitely not USB. Any recommendations, experiences, warnings? It would need to be compatible with Toast of course.

    >Also, does anyone know if there is a standalone CD-ROM duplicating device that can also be hooked up to a Mac (or PC) to be used as a CD-ROM burner? We have an older 2X/6X SCSI unit now that was suppose to be able to do that but it wouldn't ever work as a burner, just as a standalone duplicator.
