Hi Brian,
A PIF is a Program InFormation file and is usually meant to store
information about properties for DOS-applications (memory usage, starting
folder, screen size).
If you create a batch file for instance and right-click it to bring up the
properties you'll see what settings you can tweak. If you change anything
windows will automatically create a PIF file for your batch file.
PIFs are always separate files. What you could have is a Trojan virus. The
PIF extension is usually hidden under Windows so that if you name a file
WIM.JPG.PIF it would show up under windows as WIM.JPG. But the file is no
picture its a PIF which can contain executables ... or a virus.
I would trash the file and scan my system.

Wim.
