            That's another way of looking at it... An 8x10 inch image would be 40
    megabytes; or 10 megabytes per color; i.e. 30 megabytes for the same image in
    RGB space.

            I also deduce you're using a 175 lpi linescreen? That's pretty fine for a
    press to hold... And the higher the linescreen, the lower the contrast ratios
    (assuming a fixed dpi output from the imagesetter).

            If your press can indeed hold a 175 lpi screen, try lowering it to 150 LPI
    (300 pixel per inch scan) .IF. you can scan at 12 pixels per color (36 bit RGB
    scans) instead of the standard 8 bits per pixel color depth: This will give you
    better shadows and highlights.
