            Donna,

I forgot to mention that if you have a spare G3 or G4, you can use Mac OS X,
since it has Apache built in as the "personal" web server.

If serving up files is all you need, then Net Presenz by Peter Lewis (of Fetch
fame) will probably suffice as a basic web server.

Where you have to be careful is handling dual fork Mac files... Just stuff or
zip them, or Leonard will chime in with the MacBinary info.

Also, are these files only going to be retrieved once or twice; or are they
going to be retrieved dozens of times? I mention this because you don't want to
tie up your bandwidth to your facility: Instead, you can use a very basic Web
server in-house which mirrors to a hosting company with fat pipes. This way,
each large file goes out over your pipeline only once at the times YOU select,
then anyone who wants the file gets it using someone else's pipes. This way,
the Internet hosting company handles the security and all you need to do is
manage an internal web server without having to deal with web server
    programming.

            Cheers!
            Dan
