We are trying to set up a VPN so we can connect to our main server
from outside the office, but I am having trouble even finding
information on how to do it because we have a Mac Appleshare IP 6.3
    server.

We are running a B&W G3 as the main server, running Appleshare IP
6.3. We have Macs, Windows 98, and an NT machine connecting to it
and using its main drive as a network drive. Works great.

We are running IPNetRouter on a separate Mac 8100, with dual ethernet
ports and a DSL connection. (Currently we have a dynamic IP address,
and yes I realize we will have to get a static IP address from the
phone company when we set up the VPN.) Although we are very happy
with IPNetRouter, we would be willing to change to a different
router/firewall solution. In fact I use a MacSense router at home to
share a cable connection, and it is excellent and easy to configure.
A support e-mail from Sustainable Softworks (IPNet Rounter) was not
of much help, since they basically just referred me to their
newsgroup and I could not find a coherent thread (that I could
    understand) on the subject.

Can anyone suggest a solution that would let us securely connect to
our main server from remote locations across the internet? (Without
requiring a full time IT person.)

    Thanks,
    Rick Kent
