Leonard,
That's pure bullshit: Newer doesn't honor their warranty. In fact, I had a
customer that had seven bad 16x8 (16 MB 30 pin) SIMMs, - As independently
tested by the lab at PCM - So I sent the SIMMs back TWICE... And they returned
them TWICE. They claimed that they didn't have any replacements to ship out.
Finally, the distributor who sold the SIMMs to this fellow took them and shoved
them down Newer's throat. Thank goodness the distributor owed Newer a few
thousand dollars, so he was able to deduct the cost of those "lifetime
guaranteed" scrap.
And No, this was Not an esoteric problem: The Quadra 950 these SIMMs were in
was constantly crashing; and when I replaced them the crashing stopped. The
SIMMs had an assortment of stuck bits, high bus noise, and soft errors.
A warranty is like any other contract: It's only as good as the people who
sign it. And as far as I'm concerned, Newer Technology's word is as good as
shit.
