    i just got a thing in the mail advertising a UPS for Macs. (Of course
    it's translucent. :)

    Looks like what Dan's been clamoring for ever since the Macs w/o
    serial ports came out.

    Their new APC Back-UPS Pro 500 comes with "Shutdown Manager" that
    "integrates with Mac OS 9.0.4." "[It] automatically saves files and shuts
    down the Mac in the event of an extended power outage."

    Of course there's other goodies, like surge protection for phone lines,
    and user-replaceable batteries.
