Next message: Ron LaPedis: "Re: [WinMac] static & dynamic IP?"
I'm trying to create a situation where my students and staff (about 3000
users) can log into any workstation on campus (50-50/Mac-Win95) and get to
their files, which are stored on an NT server, without having to do any
extensive navigating through the Chooser or Network Neighborhood. I'm
running NT Server 4 w/MacIP and ASIP 6.2/At Ease 5.02. I have no trouble
creating a Home directory for my windows users and mapping it to a drive
letter via a login script. Similarly, I've had great success using an NT
volume as the Workgroup Data Volume for my At Ease users. The nice thing
about each of these is that the individual directories are created
dynamically. That is, I don't have to create 3000 directories by hand and
assign the appropriate permissions. It's when we begin to cross over that I
have trouble. My Windows users can't get to the the files that they created
on a Mac, and vice versa. What I want is ONE login that effectively and
efficiently covers both sides of the fence.
By default when the At Ease created user directories inside the Workgroup
data volume, the permissions aren't secure enough from the Windows side.
Also, the default permissions on a standard NT Home Directory are too tight
for access from the Mac side.
Has anyone pulled this At Ease/NT situation off? Does Mac Manager provide
any help?
I think I can do it, but only if I create the individual home directories
and assign the permissions manually. That's a nightmare. Is there a way to
create multiple directories with specific permission in NT via some sort of
script?
Any ideas would be appreciated. I've been banging my head against the wall
for weeks, trying all sorts of combinations. Thanks.
