Next message: Hal Taylor: "Re: [WinMac] Win2K server and Mac printer access"
In our mixed-platform environment (Macs and PC), we use the latest version
of GroupWise for email. We have a problem when a Mac user sends a PC user an
attachment (and vice versa). Sometimes, the attachment is unreadable.
I know that when I use Outlook Express on my Mac, I can choose the method of
encoding the attachment so it is specific for Macs (BinHex), PCs
(MIME/Base64) or for both (AppleDouble). I usually choose the AppleDouble
format since I send lots of messages to users using both platforms. To date,
I am not aware of anyone not being able to read an attachment I sent them.
How are messages encoded in GroupWise? Is this the problem? Is there any
control over this? I know you can choose how to read attachments in
GroupWise ("view attachment" or "open attachment") but can you choose any
options for sending them?
I know that there are solutions like WinZip
http://www.winzip.com/whatsnew80.htm
or Conversions Plus from DataViz
http://www.dataviz.com/products/conversionsplus/index.html
that will convert the unreadable files to a readable format but I'd like to
also know how to solve the problem without resorting to third-party
software.
