    You could try adding Add & Read (RWX)(RX) permissions to the shared
    directory (and sub-directories) for the group(s) the Mac users are in. That
    combined with Change (RWXD) (RWXD) for Creator Owner should be sufficient.
    Actually Add (WX) is really all you should need to add if people don't need
    to access files others create.

    Assuming the permission scheme is fairly simple, you could set the
    following permissions on the shared directory and let them propogate to all
    files and sub-directories.

    Administrators Full
    System Full
    Creator Owner Change
    Researchers Add (or Add & Read)

    The share permissions (if you've changed them from the default Everyone
    Full) would have to be at least Researchers Change.
