I have to ask if you've setup a server print queue (NT or Netware) for
the HP and if so, it's possible that it's set to mask, capture or hide
the printer's direct connection.
We have a HP2500 that had a HP JetDirect card in it and are printing to
it via AppleTalk through a NT Server print queue. That queue has been
set to capture that AppleTalk port on that printer so on the Mac if I go
to my Chooser I only see the NT print queue for it and not the printer directly.
