Personally I believe in hardware firewalls and run my Macs and Win98
machine behind a SonicWall which can be had for about $400 from
Buy.com. You don't need to install any special software anywhere and
the firewall is configured by a web browser. No muss, no fuss, no
reconfiguration of hardware/software, no incompatibilities. It just
works. There is also a model with 3 ports wihch wil lrun a DMZ
(Demiliterized Zone, where webservers are usually placed so that they
can get in and out securely).
