RE: [WinMac] restarting servers

Jeff,

Almost all the restarts of our NT servers are the result of software and
service pack installs. The current longest uptime for any of them is 69
days. The problem that most often (IMHO) leads to the need to restart
periodically is running a program with a memory leak. That and the annoying
fact that in some cases it is easier to continuously restart to "fix" a
problem than to dig up a solution.

I would also like to hear the reasoning behind a suggestion to restart
periodically. I once worked at a place where the servers (Unix and Novell)
were restarted nightly as a matter of the night operators normal routine,
but no reason (other than superstitions about stability) was ever given.
