The HP400 will print with Apple's Laserwriter 8 printer driver that comes
with Mac OS 9 (there is some disagreement as to whether there is any
infringement). I use an 8500 with OS 9 with no problems. HP recommends
against using Adobe Postscript drivers because HP is now emulating
postscript.

Anyway, I think Dave is your problem. I read on one of the standard sites
that Dave 2.5 will bring OS 9 compatibility.
