[WinMac] AIMS and Communigate

We have for some time been evaluating Stalker's Communigate to replace our
current arrangements for internal and external email on our network of
about 15 Macs and half-a-dozen PCs.

We have confirmed that it will do everything we need, and were preparing
to roll it out when a spanner was thrown in the works: we're about to
replace our ancient AppleShare file server with one running AppleShare IP
6.2/3; this comes with AIMS (which version? - not sure), so the obvious
question arises, why should we install Communigate - why shouldn't we use
AIMS?

Can anyone shed any light on this question? What we like about Communigate
is the flexibility and extensibility; eg the ability to program rules to
determine the disposition of mail. (About a third of our staff are
programmers of one kind or another). The other thing I like about is that
it is a core product of a small company; with luck, that may mean it is
better supported than a product bundled on the back of another program by
a very large company, which could easily abandon it at any time. (On the
other hand, it's a fair bet that the large company will still be in
business in five years time - with small companies, you never know.)

Any advice gratefully received - especially from anyone who's using either
Communigate or the latest version of AIMS.
