John,

There's a discussion list specifically in support of AppleShare IP. School
tech coordinator's are frequent contributors, so that may prove fertile
ground if you were to re-post your question in that forum. This ASIP List
is one of several hosted by Apple which can be reached through
<http://www.lists.apple.com/>. Look specifically for the AppleShare IP list
which can reached directly via
<http://www.lists.apple.com/lists.taf?function=showlistsdetail&Layout_0_uid1
=60>.

You may choose to subscribe and post you question or there's a searchable
archive of past correspondence which may hold the answer to your question.
Related questions and solutions I recall involved educators who needed to
import lists of new students each year and automatically create server
folders for each.

My own suggestion would be to create a group named "All Students". Assuming
you have an individual username for each student, every student would be
added as a member of this group. When you create a sharepoint named "User
Storage", give it read-only permission to the "All Students" group. This
allows any student to mount it, but not create any new folders or documents
at that level. You may then create individual folders for each student and
to which each student was read-write permission.

As you can see, this can be a tedious and time consuming process with large
student populations. That's why there was interest in a script which would
automate some of this process, and suggestions on scripting this process are
probably to be found in the ASIP List archives.

Hope this helps,
