I have a VERY similar setup at home... I also have a 660C that I was trying
to see from my PC running pc maclan. Unfortunately, it's not possible. The
only printers that pc maclan will let you use are the ones that use the
laserwriter driver. So even if you get the printer connected via appletalk
(which you SHOULD be able to do with just a serial cable, since you won't
need to be connecting anything else that way), PC maclan still won't be able
to use it.

I've also looked at making this work using DAVE on the mac... unfortunately,
similar story: dave can only share postscript printers.

So now I'm looking for a cheap postscript ethernet printer to put on my
small net... is there such a thing? But for most purposes, I do fine by
transferring a file from the PC to the mac and printing it there. You can
even write an appletalk script to turn a shared folder on the mac into a
print spooler, by periodically printing whatever's been placed there and
then deleting it.

Now if you DO find a way to connect that deskwriter, please let me know. :-)

Also, just a word of caution, I've read somewhere today that most
deskwriters (660-series included) don't work under macos 9, and HP doesn't
have any plans to offer driver updates.
