[WinMac] Re: WinMac Digest #423 - 09/27/99

Hi, I've been lurking, so this is my first post. I realize that this may be the stuff of holy wars, but I just have to ask... I've been a dedicated user of SoftWindows v1.something, but upgraded to a G3 Mac a while back. SoftWindows still works, but it won't read the ATAPI drive. The tech support folks at Insignia said (essentially) "tough luck, you need to upgrade..." and they were unwilling to even offer me a discount for my customer loyalty and all the good things I've had to say about them in the past... bummer. I figure, if I've got to go the full upgrade path, I should consider Virtual PC. I've been checking the web pages that discuss this, but none that I've found compare the latest version of SoftWindows to the latest version of Virtual PC. I've certainly been able to find Virtual PC available with some discounts, while everywhere I've looked seems to be asking full face value for SoftWindows... or more. I figure that Virtual PC has fewer compatibility issues, but SoftWindows is probably faster? Does anyone have any late breaking news on recent comparisons, issues, and where to find the best deals? Other random thoughts???
thanks,
