Good lord! Rather than doing it that way, I'd just pick up the NT box
and bash myself on the head with it until unconscious whenever I got the
urge to figure out what .dll does what. 8-)

Now, I believe in the Windows SDK there's documentation about what calls
are in what .Dlls, from that you can deduce what each one does. But
that's a large pile of money to spend on a poor substitute for
Informinit...

Thank you for your idea.

My problem right now is how can I limit restrictions of macintosh users.

What I meant here is that I don't want mac user to see Chooser, control panel, etc and they can only see their network drive directory in NT NTFS.

Any help or book to help me configure it that way.

Thanks to All.

Hi, I have an old version of appleshare at the school lab where I word (4.2.1) and it came with a copy of copstalk for win95. I am having some problems with it (it doesn't want to connect to my appleshare file server-gets a ddp error). I have tried calling them and visiting their site on the web and have gotten nothing. I assume they've gone out of business. Does anyone know if someone bought their product line?

Thanks in advance Randy

Thursby, makers of DAVE for the Mac, bought it. It's now called TSSTalk 1.0 (Thursby Software Systems Talk).

I'm developing a printer page accounting system, and need to count the number of PRINTED pages in a postscript file. I intercept this file when the client "prints" it, and then send it onto the destination printer. Is there any 'form feed' command or 'end of page' command I can "count" in a PS document to do this page count?

Alternatively, are there commands I can send to an Apple LaserWriter to have it send back the current page count? With HP printers I can send the command '@PJL INFO PAGECOUNT' to the JetDirect card before and after a print job has been printed, to determine the number of pages printed, Apple seems to provide no such mechanism.

Thanks in advance, >...ROMeyn

Good morning

Running a Dell server, 128 RAM with RAID 1 and 5. NT 4.0, SP5. SFM installed - Mac volumes created and mounted. Newly built about 3 weeks ago. Being used as a server in a newsroom of all Macs. Not seeing much use right now because school is not in session. Macs running 8.1 - 8.6. After certain amount of time of idle time, Mac client will give message "Lost connection to the server". Server has message that the client is no longer connected. Can quickly reconnect but not sure why the connection is timing out with non-use. Checked the last few months of postings on this list, some of the NT-Mac web sites, and Microsoft and haven't found anything yet.

Has anyone run into this one? It's not lethal but it's annoying!

TIA

Um...well, you could use OS X Server's Macintosh Manager to lock down the client's, or At Ease for Workgroups, or some such security software, and then set the NT drives to automount. Just a silly question, WHY do you want to do this?

[Administrador] Have you tried the following sites?

www.winfiles.com www.windrivers.com

Both sites have an excellent database with models and websites, and generic drivers.

Sure - use PAP, the Printer Access Protocol (see <http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/mac/NetworkingOT/NetworkingWOT-76 .html>).

i just went through a couple of Postscript files i had lying around and did:

grep Pages filename

i ended up with things like: %%Pages: 1 %%Pages: 4 %%Pages: 5

Which matched the length of those docs. You'll have to watch out for: %%Pages: (atend)

i think that might occur at the beginning of a document, telling you to look for the true number of pages at the end. (How intuitive!) :}

(And it'll probably be safest to grep for %%Pages, in case somebody actually wrote the word "Pages" in their document.)
