Anybody know the proper Chooser setting to use on the Mac side, when trying
to set up a BJC-80 printer to print from within VPC?

I can get the printer to work from the Mac using PowerPrint 4.5 and the
BJC-70 driver Infowave recommends. I installed the Canon drivers for
Windows 95 inside VPC, but I get just one line of gibberish to the printer,
followed by VPC quitting and an unstable Finder.

I'm using a WSI PBG3/250 and MacOS 8.6

Thanks!

My name is Doug and I was hired by Concordia College to network I-macs
and mac 6200's into an NT system.

We are at the very basics of which software we can host on our NT
servers and run on our Mac's.

In addition, what would be a good hardware configuration for a Mac
server if the NT hosting is to much trouble.

I would like to avoid the trial and error method of setting this up, so
any info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a fairly hearty recommender of the combination of a mac server and
Apple Share IP 6.2. It's incredibly easy to set up ( I managed it without
even having done it before or reading the manual, and this was with
Windows sharing too), and so far seems pretty relaible, although it's
early days for me to say it works perfectly. I've had two lock ups in two
weeks, but I think these are teething problems which I can sort out
rather than inherent faults with the software. Microsoft Office needs to
be updated to Service Release 2 to be compatible but apart from that, I'm
not aware of any other problems. Basically if the Macs don't NEED to be
on the same server as the PC's then definitely go for a Mac Server; it'll
pay dividends in the long run.

Cheers, Dan Thurgood

Hi all, looking for input as to your experiences with *currently
commercially available* VPN client SW for Mac. I am the lone Mac
user in a growing organization which has an NT network behind an
Apexx Technology Team Internet box. I need a VPN client supporting
PPTP; primary access method is dialup thru international points of
presence via ibm.net. I anticipate also soon needing access via
ethernet-connected ADSL from multiple locations.

My current platform is PB1400 w/ G3 upgrade running OS 7.6.1,
upgrading to a new G3 or eBook on OS 8+ in the next months...

I am aware of NTS TunnelBuilder, however their continued support for
Mac users in small user situations may be a ? and only "weak"
encryption (rules the product out for my needs) is available unless
you buy a 50-pak....

Thanks,

Chuck

Chuck:

I am also the lone Mac user in an organization of nearly 200 folks.

My experience w/ NTS is uniformly POSITIVE. I bought a single user version
4.x of the Mac TunnelBuilder in March; their web commerce setup was
extremely easy. 40-bit encryption was insufficient to hook up w/ our
company's MS VPN. So, as soon as the 5.x version w/ 128-bit encryption was
available, they let me have it, and it worked flawlessly from Day One.

Recently, someone knocked my G3 PowerBook/300/8.6 off a table, and it
crashed my hard drive. After getting that resolved, I e-mailed NTS about my
dilemma, and they promptly supplied me with the latest version of
TunnelBuilder.

In fact, you can demo version 5.06 for 14 days just by downloading it from
their site.

Are you in need of greater-than-128-bit encryption? If so, I have no
recommendation.
