Lcrain,

Your problem is most likely related to antiviral software. MacOS 8.x broke
all antiviral software, resulting in a freeze when copying files from a
network volume. This sounds identical to your problem.

There are two solutions to your problem. (1) Update your antiviral software
to the latest versions or (2) disable the antiviral software. The most
recent version of Virex is 5.9.1 and the most recent version of Norton
AntiVirus (NAV) is 5.0.3.
