[WinMac] Novell client/MS incompatibility?

When I have a Novell client installed on my original G3 desktop running OS
8.5.1, it periodically locks up when I select a menu in Microsoft programs.
It's happened today in both Excel 98 and Outlook (Exchange version 8.0). It
hasn't happened in non-MS programs. It can be any menu including the Apple
menu. The mouse freezes when the menu items appear. I don't have to be
logged into the network for it to happen. It doesn't happen all the time and
I can't predict it. Force quitting doesn't work. I have to use cmd-ctrl-pwr
to reboot.

The same thing happened last year when I installed Novell's client. I didn't
have time to run it down back then, so I just haven't connected to the
server (running Netware 4) with this machine. I decided to try the Prosoft
client today and am now seeing the same problem.

Anyone have any ideas before I start turning extensions off?
