Keep at it - your Mac will work on the server just fine.

Outlook is not the same as Outlook Express. You can find a just released
version of Outlook here:

I just downloaded this to install myself. Based on the comments that
I've seen so far it doesn't support PC/Mac calendaring - that is the only
drawback.
