Another issue is with the problems some Epson users face. It would seem than
doing something as simple as replacing an ink tank causes an air lock in the
print head and the printer is rendered useless until the air lock can be
removed...

This is why I personally prefer printers which do not have the print head as
part of the printer but rather part of the ink tank itself. Refilling these
is also easier (if you're into that kinda thing - watch the mfg. warranty on
refilling issues).

Hello, gang!

Before buying look at the ink cartridge setup: If you have kids that are
going to be printing with lots of color - As opposed to B&W text averaging
5% ink coverage - then you'll want to get a printer that has separate
inkjet heads and ink cartridges. Many of today's inkjet printers have the
inkjet nozzle assembly integral to the ink cartridge. This is sort of like
razors: Give away the razor (the printer) and sell the blades (the ink
cartridges).

Worse yet are two-cartridge printers: One black cartridge and one
"tri-color" (process red, process blue, process yellow) cartridge, where as
soon as one color runs out you have to replace the cartridge. You *may*
find it better to buy a PC printer and use InfoWave (formerly GDT)
PowerPrint: They have USB-Parallel and Ethernet-Parallel adapters *and the
drivers* as well as their older Serial-Parallel offering. See it at:

While you're at it, check out the inkjet printer offerings from Alps and
Canon. I particularly like my Alps MD-4000...

Lastly, do you need PostScript® capability? Then also check out
 <http://www.birmy.com> and
 <http://www.infowave.com/stylescript/StyleScript_intro.htm> for RIP
software and desired compatibility.

Cheers!
