Alas, no. FileMaker 4.1's ODBC support is one-way: It can *query* an ODBC
compliant database (which includes Access 97) but it cannot respond to SQL
queries directed at itself. The hope is that two-way ODBC support will appear in
version 5, which is rumored to be slated for release this year (but who really
knows!).

This didn't appear to be possible when I tried to find out last year. I
half remember having read somthing since then about FileMaker and ODBC,
so things may have changed.

Go to www.FileMaker.com for their ODBC stuff.
But I think it only goes the OTHER direction.

I'm getting a blue & white g3 with the mitsubishi 900u monitor with plans to add a second box that runs primarily linux, but also window. The 900u has two ports so the boxes can share usb peripherals connected to the monitor, but what mouse keyboard can I get that will work with both Mac and Windows (and hopefully Linux)? I'm aware that Linux isn't too usb friendly at the moment. I'm also assuming that Windows doesn't have a generic usb keyboard/mouse driver so I could use the mac perphs. What's the easiest solution to get some crappy LCIII's to see a printer shared off a Windows 95 box? All machines are already on a network. I've got access to Dave. As an aside - I've done this the other way round before where the printer hangs off a Mac using LocalTalk Bridge and a NT server does the print spooling / serving. Can this be done without the server stage? (Where Win 95/98 boxes can see the printer directly on the Mac...) Cheers, Antony. Subject: Re: One Keyboard/Mouse with 3 OSs From: "Daniel L. And the G3 keeps the USB powered up all the time for the power on key. W2k, win 95/OSR2.1, & win 98 have USB support, but NT4 lacks USB support, as does *I think* all flavors of *nix. Keep in mind that *nix is intended (mostly) for servers and not really for the desktop... That is why you see plenty of drivers for SCSI & NIC's, and not too many for video cards and multimedia... I've recently upgraded my AWS7350 to Appleshare 6.1.1, so as my PC's (running Windows 95) can see it, and share files with it. Provided they're not Powerpoint files. Which it eats. For breakfast. Now that Apple has offered the upgrade from IP 6.1.1 to 6.2 for free, has anyone actually followed the upgrade path and found that it has solved the SMB serving errors? I'm a bit loathe to come into work on a Saturday and perform the upgrade if it doesn't actually make any difference to this problem, and slightly concerned about the amount of questions regarding MacOS 8.6 (which is required for IP 6.2 to work). So if anyone can help, I'd be very chuffed indeed. On the Performa he is able to print fine to an HP printer from Word and many other programs but when he tries to print from FileMaker he gets an error message saying that the serial port is busy. I'm one to upgrade the OS of just about any Mac I get my hands on but being a Performa I was a bit hesitant. I may have to do just that. Thanks! ______________________________________________________________________ Tom Roth Wake Forest University School of Medicine tomroth@wfubmc.edu Dept of Biomedical Communications http://www.wfubmc.edu/biomed/ Medical Center Blvd Tel 336.716.4493 Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1011 ______________________________________________________________________ Subject: Re: Re: FileMaker Pro 2.1 printing problem From: "Daniel L. Schwartz" Date: Thu, 10 Jun 1999 17:52:17 -0400 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Dear Tom, Performa's were generally crippled versions of the corresponding Quadra and PPC 6100 models. For example, the P63x series used the 68LC040 CPU, while the Q630 used the full version, i.e. the P63x lacked the integral math coprocessor in the CPU - That's what the "LC in 68LC040 stands for. Also, the Performa 61xx series only ran at 60 mHz and lacked the 256 kilobyte L2 cache that the 6100/66 had... Essentially, Apple was grading out 601 CPU chips and the bottom of the barrel ended up in Performa 61xx's. In all cases, the Performa's have the same ROM as the corresponding Quadra, LC, or PowerMac model so proceed as you normally would. In your case, *definitely* upgrade the machine to System 7.5.1; or 7.6.1 if they need to use the TCP/IP stack for Internet access. Also, for about $40 or so you can buy a 68040RC3/33 - The 33 mHz 68040 with FPU. Since System 7.1, Apple "borrowed" the technology from DayStar to route all SANE (Standard Apple Numeric Event) calls (binary math) to the FPU for better CPU usage... This essentially doubles the overall performance, especially with QuickDraw calls... Cheers! Dan At 05:25 PM 6/10/99 -0400, Tom Roth wrote: >"Daniel L.
