I had a similar problem with the hard drive on my new Powerbook last week:
a flashing question mark and an unrecognizable/unmountable drive when
booting externally. Neither Disk First Aid, Norton Utilities 4.0, or
Techtool Pro 2.1.1 could do a thing with it. Then I tried Alsoft's
DiskWarrior, and it did the trick. It was able to rebuild the file
directory so that the drive was mountable and accessible again.

That was my first experience with Diskwarrior and I was quite impressed.
Its kind of expensive, but I figured it paid for itself that first time.

Good luck,

Jerry

Our list software, which is Mac-based LetterRip, not listserv, strips
off MIME-encoded attachments. Unfortunately, non-MIME encoded
attachments can slip through...

With so many service packs for NT, can I just use the latest one (service
pak 5) on a freshly installed NT4a instead of going thru service pak 2, 3,
4 then 5? In other words, does Service Pak 5 have all the components in the
previous service paks?

Thanks for the help,

Service Packs are cumulative. SP5, however, has a handy feature if you
only want to upgrade 1 or 2 machines: You download a small setup file that
polls your system, and only downloads the files you need. This is handy if
you have a slow connection.

        Cheers!

        Tim,

I agree with you 100%... But then, look again at the *two* qualifications
I placed on the mini setup for SP5:

        1) Only 1 or 2 machines;

        2) Slow modem connection.

"(S)ince I [you] deal with large numbers of computers" then most likely
you also have an Internet connection that could sustain a 36 megabyte
transfer without being bounced. If not, write back and I'll set up a
private FTP session for you. :)

[Note: This offer is open to all... Write me off list.]

        Cheers!
        Dan
