I recently upgraded my 72000 w/ 64ram to OS8.5.1.

Now I cannot copy up to the server. It just freezes. It starts, then stops.

I can copy from the server though.

We are running service pack 3 on server.

I bought and installed two Toshiba 6G drives for my PowerBook and a Dell
laptop. After numerous problems with the PB using Apple's drivers, I
purchased FWB's driver and installed. One of the options on the driver
is the ability to turn off "blind transfers" which (as I understand it
and for purposes of this discussion) tells the driver to make sure the
data was correctly written or read (e.g. don't transfer blindly).

Q: Is there an option for FAT32 drivers somewhere which will allow me to
check and disable Blind Transfers?

Thanks for any insight.

Not sure on the error message, but we run NT 4.0 SP3 with SFM with the post
SP3 hotfix (SP4 includes this), Mac OS 8.5.1
and some of our shares run up to 300,000 files. The recommended limit is
65,535 files.
I haven't seen this error on our Mac but we do have issues with
'disappearing' files from the share,
but all we do is 'refresh' the files by moving them out and back into the
share.
We are looking at MacServerIP to replace SFM very soon - so far our testing
has been good...
They claim there is NO limit and NO issues with the share. (we'll see!)

Subject: Error -37 when copying files to NT4/file number limits?

I'm copying a lot of files from a Mac running 8.5.1 to a NT4 (sp4) server,
and generally on the same files I'm getting a -37 error on my Mac.

I've checked the MS tech support db, to no avail.

Any clues?

BTW, are there any limits to the number of files I can store on a NT4 SFM
volume? I want to put around 24,000 files on.

Just to add to the mix - Windows 2000 (NT5) will also have an
improved SFM that supports AFP over IP. MS also claims that it will
use the NT security model to control permissions and will have
improved speed and reliability. So now we are at the point to decide
if we buy a 3rd party solution like MacServerIP, or do we wait and
see if SFM is 'fixed' in W2K.

and the site has an annoucement
about another product coming out soon to do AFP over IP. Looks like there's
real market for this. Our organization has been seriously looking at
AppleShareIP for new studio servers with an eye towards moving to OSX
(which we in the NYC office are very sceptical of for a variety of
reasons). This development, if the products are any good should make the
debate very interesting.

Has anyone else been looking at or using any of these?

David -

Check to see if you have an older version of Virex installed, say 5.8
or 5.9. These programs do exactly what you explain.

Upgrade to the latest verison, 5.9.1 and your problems will go away.

For printing there are a number of solutions that run on an NT server, most of them suck, but hey... Try something like DigiTrax (or maybe Digitracks), tracks print jobs through NT servers...

Sunbelt Software has a whole bunch of print utility goodies. Plus, they have free 30 day trials on almost everything. <http://www.sunbelt-software.com>

Try updating the Server to either Service Pack 5; or at minimum install the Post-SP3 HotFixes for SFM.
