Gareth, I agree that the documentation could be better, but it is worth
persevering. I use Dave at multiple client sites to attach my powerbook
directly to Win98 machines (file sharing) and NT networks. My clients
wouldn't allow using Mac NT services nor would I expect them to
accommodate my needs.

I have found it is actually easier to set-up Dave to connect to a NT
network than to figure out how to get a Win98 machine connected and
running. Perhaps I was lucky that my client's IT resource was available
for 30 seconds to give me the info to connect to the network. It took
the same person trying to connect a Win98 machine over an hour to get
connected.

All that was required was to set up TCP/IP control panel on the
powerbook and then the Dave control panel info. The TCP/IP network
address was entered as a new location/setting and in Dave TCP/IP was
selected, pswd and user id entered and voila! Now I just wish I could
print to non-postscript printers somehow. I haven't used any of the
other features etc. of Dave, so I can't comment how easy they are to get
going.

The only problem that I am having is with one client who doesn't have an
resident NT network admin. The never available outsourced person refuses
to tell me the IP address since he thinks that I don't need the info.
Since they aren't using the DHCP (dynamic ???? something or other) but
TCP/IP, I need the IP address to enter into the TCP/IP control panel to
connect via Dave. What is so secret about the IP address I'll never know
....

Good luck.
Philip
