Dear Brooks,

I have not "mapped" either of the com ports available to the PC.
They are both empty. I am not using AppleTalk at all - in fact the Mac
has nothing to do with the connection directly. As far as I can tell,
the Mac doesn't even "know" there's a connection.

All we did was plug in a cross-over cable and configure my Pentium
100 card with his PC - AMD 90. Windows 95 is doing the connection and
it's not via TCP/IP - in fact I think it's using IPX/SPX and NetBEUI.
We're running "Client for Microsoft Networks".

The problem is that if I restart the Windows Pentium 100 Card in my
Mac - the ethernet connection is lost and unrecoverable unless I restart
the Mac too. I would love to be able to just "reset" the ethernet port
and not have to completely reboot my Mac.

I will check out the control panel several of you spoke about on the
PC and see if it works. Hopefully it will and I'll let you know.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I appreciate your help.

          Rosemary

PS. The Printer Port problem occurs solely on the Mac side. I can print
from the PC with no problem. I was figuring that if I had a program that
could "reset" all ports - like the printer, as well as the ethernet - I
wouldn't have to reboot the Mac to get the PC ethernet or the Printer on
the Mac side to work.

PPS. I want to thank Patrick Kelly McCarthy for his assistance
explaining - amazingly understood me! Thanks Patrick.
