        Dear John,

One minor problem with the APC (not APS, the disk drive distributor)
PowerChute software: It doesn't recognize (as of last Friday) the USB
port... Remember, the serial ports were killed off with the blue & white
G3 Macs.

Below is the quoted correspondence from APC:

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for your continued interest in APC products.

APC recognizes the customer demand for a UPS which can be attached to
an

Apple computer via the USB port, as

well as, software for gracefully shutting down the Apple computer in
the

event of a power failure. However, our

solution, PowerChute for Macintosh, currently functions with APC UPSs
which

have a serial port. As always,

any APC UPS can be used with any Apple Macintosh computer to provide

back-up power in the event of a power

disturbance

Are you planning to have Apple OS-X and/or MacOS 8.5.1 - compatible

software for the USB (Universal Serial Bus) version of the BackUps Pro? The

reason for this is that the blue & white G3 minitower Macs and AppleShare

Servers released in January do NOT have any (RS-422) serial ports... Unlike

any previous tower or desktop Macs, all they have is USB (like the iMac).

Thank you!
