I'm going to make a stab at trying to understand what Rosemary was
saying/requesting in her post to the list.

I don't think anyone got it right, and I might not either, especially
since I don't know Wintel to any tech level.

I'm going to try this in-line . . .

Here goes:

I believe Rosemary means she wants to gain control of the Mac's
network/printing ports from her Mac-hosted Pentium 100 processor card.

It appears she is using/running Windows 95 through the Pentium 100 PC
processor that is being hosted on her PowerMac 7200/120

When she cuts loose of the printer port from inside Windows, the pentium
100 PC processor card apparently does not let loose of the printer port
. . . giving a message that the port "is in use".

This phenomenon of hanging on to a port sometimes happens on the Mac
(w/out a hosted PC processor) . . . like when your computer freezes
while you are communicating online . . . causing you to have to restart
and maybe turn the modem itself on and off as well (one of these or both
are sometimes necessary as well as possibly having to trash the finder preferences)
-- however, Rosemary does not have this degree of problem. Appears to
be more of an arbitration problem (no freeze up).

Rosemary appears to be communicating from the Mac-hosted Pentium 100 PC
processor card to/with her husband's PC. She is not using the Mac or
its OS to do any of this communication.

Therefore, I think, David's answer seemed very appropriate and probably
would work . . . though Mary doesn't seem to know that she has to go
inside the Windows 95 OS operating the hosted Pentium 100 processor card
to handle the communication between her hosted Pentium and her husband's
networked PC.

Should be able to

Rosemary apparently has to shut down the Windows 95 OS, she thinks, in
order to transfer files (apparently using Mac drag&drop) because she
doesn't know how to transfer the files from within Windows 95. I might
have trouble there myself, beigh more of a pure Mac person.

In the process of rebooting Windows 95 on the Mac-hosted Pentium 100
processor card she loses the network connection (which I believe she
actually may have already lost that connection when she shut down the
Windows 95)

Now, can someone help her?
