There's not really such a thing as a generic dot matrix driver in the
sense of one driver that will work with most printers, because printers
can differ fundamentally in the way they want the bitmap data sent. But
if the Imagewriter is basically a C. Itoh machine I'd start with a
driver for a C. Itoh (there only seems to be one in late Win95
distributions, the 8510).

The basic way of working for Imagewriters is to print whatever bitmap
data the Mac sends - but they also have a good set of built-in fonts (by
mid-80s 9 pin standards), which in DOS days one could easily manipulate
in software though not, as Dan says, with hardware controls.
