Sorry, somewhat off-topic, but desperate.

In a PowerMac 7500 with 604e/166 CPU, MacOS 8.1, SpeedDoubler 8.1.2 and
HDT 2.5.3 HD driver the following identical problem occurs on 2 hard
disks (IBM DCAS-34330 S61A, 4GB; Quantum Fireball 1080S 1Q09, 1GB) :
Copying of data (up to 300 MB per job for backups) runs usually fine,
though may occasionally freeze the machine. The copied data appear
fine, all directories can be opened, programs work, but testing the
integrity of the data either with First Aid 8.1 or Norton Disk Doctor
4.01 yields the same result:

"Missing file record for file thread"

for usually _all_ copied files. If only a few files have been copied,
this can be repaired, if many are, the faulty the attempted repair
causes hang-up and the partition should be deleted afterwards.

At first this problem occured with the IBM HD at the internal and the
Quantum HD at the external SCSI bus, however the same results were
obtained with both drives at the internal bus and also copying from one
to another partition of the same disk.

In summary I can neither trust my backups nor the integrity of the data
in usage.

MacTools 1.1.8 indicates no damage to the hardware.
