[WinMac] Re: disk partitioning debate

        Not really: I've been down that road, even so far as to format a 250
megabyte partition to FAT12 with 64 kilobyte clusters,

        The problem is, if the pagefile is at the end of the disk (on the outer
tracks, where the sustained transfer is the fastest), then the head slaps
all around, slowing down the machine.

        DO NOT DESPAIR! Due to a bug in Photoshop 5.0, the pagefile (or at least
part of the pagefile) needs to be on the C: partition. So, by accident I
stumbled across an even faster solution: Plant the pagefile, with minimum
and maximum sizes on your main NTFS partition. Then, plant a 16 megabyte
pagefile on this "other" partition.

        Finally, make this dedicated partition your Photoshop Primary scratch
disk, and your C: drive the secondary scratch disk... You end up with the
best of both worlds:

        * Photoshop gets to use the outside tracks where the sustained transfer is
most important;

        * If you play your cards right, then the pagefile ends up in the middle of
the platter, where the average seek time is at the minimum.

        Hope this helps!
