Q3) "How do you respond to the problem... 'finder preferences need repair-
replace with originals or
other individual preferences'?"

A1) Via Extension Manager, assure Foreign File Access is activated. It
activates all extensions to mount "foreign" CDs.

A2) I don't know why, but I use to get this alot on a Quada 840AV running
Communicator 3.0 too. As already posted, reinstall is the answer (at least the
only one I came up with). Afterward, I would tweek it to your liking, back it
up, and then just drag and drop it to replace it if it fails again (boy that's
alot of its).

A3) Simply trash the Finder preferences. A new default one will be created (as
with all preferences). Afterward, I would tweek the Finder prefs (General
Controls, Keyboard, etc.) to your liking, back it up, and... bah, bah, bah.
